Animated trajectories?

Postby chadlock » Tue Jan 12, 2010 6:20 pm

I have a table of x,y points in 2 space or x,y,z points in 3 space. Each is a trajectory of the solution to a differential or difference equation. I would like to graph them in excel as scatter plots but where the points (and lines connecting them) show up gradually as the trajectory evolves over time. I still need the previous points to stay on the screen as the new points are added. Can I do this conveniently using this package? Or woudlyou recommend something. I need something that is free, easy for my students to master, and preferably something that is excel based, although this last is not essential. Thanks for any advice. (Each of the tables is indexed by an additional column representing time, but that does not have to show up on the graph.)

Hi there,

Interesting problem. As it stands, I don't believe the AniMateXL add-in will help. However, from your description, it doesn't sound like too much of a stretch to make it work. If you are interested, please send an example of the data that you are using to phil@animatexl.com and I'll take a more in depth look.

Phil.
